At-Risk Older Driver Program
Introduction

Despite the declining physical conditions associated with advancing age, research is showing that older persons are successfully adjusting for those age related changes and are driving safely well into their 70s, 80s, and 90s. ( from NYSOFA’s When You Are Concerned)

The Steuben County Office for the Aging recognizes that driving ability and not age is the determining factor when deciding whether an older driver is safe to continue driving.  We also recognize that addressing driving concerns can be very difficult for families and friends that are trying to preserve the independence, mobility, and dignity of the older person.  Many times, the older driver is unaware or unwilling to acknowledge their driving impairment.

The goal of the At-Risk Older Driver Program is to offer compassionate support, guidance, and information about available resources to older drivers (age 60 and over), families, and members of our community when seeking help with concerns about older driver safety.  All cases are treated confidentially and with sensitivity to all persons involved.
