At Steuben County Public Health & Nursing Services we are the official county resource for health-related preventative care and information. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive, confidential health care services to individuals of all ages throughout Steuben County and are also available as a 24-hour resource to physicians and hospital staff who may have emergency question about health-related topics. Caring for you and your family Family Health Services Our
clinics and
programs are available to individuals or families who reside in Steuben
County. Here is a list of our offerings that you and your family
can take advantage of for little or no cost. For Expectant Mothers, Infants, and Children MOMS
Program If
you are eligible for Medicaid, we work with your private medical
practitioner
to provide support services during your pregnancy and up to 60 days
after
delivery. Services include: Prenatal Health Education, Nutrition,
Assessment and Counseling, Preparation for Parenting, Postpartum Health
Education, Physical Assessment of the newborn, and coordinating of
other
services. For Families of All Ages Immunization
Clinics Children one month of age to adults can take advantage of our monthly immunization clinics. Vaccines include: Hepatitis A, Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis (Whooping Cough), H. Influenza type b, Polio, Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pneumoccocal and Rotateq (rotavirus vaccine). Tuberculosis (TB) testing is also available for a nominal fee. New York State Immunization Information System (Now Available) Finger Lakes Area Immunization Registry Any resident of Steuben County can bring an immunization record to Steuben County Public Health & Nursing Services to have the data entered into the NYS Registry. Should you happen to lose your copy or should your physician relocate your child's immunization information is stored within the system for your convenience. There is no charge for this service. Lead
Poisoning Prevention We provide free lead poisoning prevention education for families and homeowners. Our nursing staff also provides follow-up case management for children with elevated lead levels. Lead screening is available for children from birth to six years of age when this is not provided by the family's health care provider as well as for children that are uninsured. West
Nile Virus Prevention Program We can provide you with information about West Nile Virus including how the disease is transmitted, preventative measures that can be taken, and what to do if you suspect you have encountered an animal with West Nile Virus. It is important to note that not all dead birds are collected or tested. For questions call (607)664-2438. Rabies
Prevention Program We can provide you with information about rabies including how the disease is transmitted, how it can be treated and what you should do if you suspect you have encountered an animal with rabies. In addition, we provide free rabies clinics for cats, dogs as well as animal bite management. Communicable
Disease Control Our
staff provides education for individuals in order to prevent the spread
of communicable diseases. We also provide surveillance services
to
secure reports of cases and trace contacts of people with communicable
diseases. For Adults STD/HIV
Testing and Education We provide you with confidential HIV screening as well as diagnosis, treatment and counseling for a variety of sexually transmitted diseases. TB
Service If you have Tuberculosis (TB) or have tested positive with the PPD/ Mantoux testing, we provide consultation and medical follow-up for all active patients and their contacts. |
