| The Department of Social Services (DSS) is organized
into functional
divisions (as prescribed in Federal and State statutes), which are
responsible
for specific assistance programs. These include: |
1. Public Assistance
a) Aid to Dependent Children
b) Home Relief
c) Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
d) Employment Services e) Fraud and Legal Affairs |
2. Medical Assistance
a) Medicaid
b) Nursing Home and Hospital Care
c) Physicians, Dentists, Pharmacists, etc.
d) Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
e) Managed Care |

4. Title XX Services
a) Child Protective
b) Adult Protective
c) Adoptions
d) Foster Home Placement
e) Preventive Services |
5. Child Support Enforcement Unit Responsibilities of
the Public Assistance,
Medical Assistance, and Food Stamps divisions are to interview
applicants,
determine their eligibility, determine how much assistance they can
receive,
and deliver the appropriate payment. The entire process is repeated at
specified intervals to re-establish eligibility. The Department
also
coordinates selection and assignment of Home Relief and Aid to
Dependent
Children Employables to public sector work assignments. The
Department's
duties under Title XX Services are much more varied. Caseworkers become
personally involved in the lives of clients with individual counseling,
home visits, problem solving, assistance, foster home selection and
adoption
activities, to name a few. The Child Support Enforcement Unit of the
Department
monitors Family Court support judgments; its support investigators are
deputized to pursue those delinquent in support payments. The
Department
maintains intake offices at Corning, Hornell and Bath. All services are
offered at the Bath office. Title XX Services only are also offered at
Corning and Hornell.
