The County Attorney is the Chief
Legal Officer for the County in all civil matters. The County Attorney
is appointed by the Steuben County Legislature to direct the Law
Department and to appoint subordinate staff, as necessary.
The staff of the Law Department is comprised of twelve people.

meetings of the Legislature and committee meetings to advise on legal
problems • Prepares resolutions and local laws of a technical nature
and gives advice concerning the legality of legislation • Prosecutes
and defends civil actions and proceedings brought by or against the
County, the Legislature or any County officer • Labor relations •
Prepares deeds and other legal documents for real estate being acquired
or sold by the County. This position is full time.

civilly
and criminally – Makes applications for guardianship – Medicaid issues
– Adult
Protective issues - Appointment is made with the advise of and consent
of the
Commissioner of Social Services - Attorney
is deputized as an Assistant District Attorney. |
