UPDATE: On May 5, 2009, the Public Works Committee approved County crews manufacturing precast box culverts for Towns. This will be a 40% cost savings to the Towns.

Shared Use of Equipment
County shares with Towns, NYSDEC, NYSDOT and BOCES: Dozers, trucks, lowboy, track excavators, loaders, shoulder widener, chip seal machine.
Schuyler County:  Loans its jersey spreader/dozer, blacktop paver, operators and message boards to Steuben DPW.
BOCES:  Shares equipment with the Towns and County.
Joint Ownership and Operation of Equipment
Pavement striping truck: Steuben with Schuyler and Yates Counties.
Gravel crusher: Steuben County with the towns of Cameron, Jasper, Tuscarora & Woodhull.
Steuben County Soil & Water Conservation Service (S&WCS)
diamonds.gifPartners with Steuben County DPW, Towns, and NYSDEC to clean creeks.  The gravel is used to build roads.  
Steuben County DPW partners with S&WCS to place erosion control rip rap and rock spurs in County streams.
Steuben County DPW provides the operator and repair services for the S&WCS track hoe.
Flood Repair

Snowplowing
diamonds.gifTowns plow 200 miles of County roads. The contract pays by the mile per year.  
diamonds.gifSteuben Co. DPW partially funded town salt buildings for shared use.
diamonds.gifCounty plows 100 miles of State roads. The contract pays by the mile per year.
Mowing: Towns mow 160 miles of County roads. The contract pays by the mile per mowing.
Bridge Construction
diamonds.gifCounty designs, builds and maintains and pays for 142 Town bridges. Towns maintain the driving surface.
diamonds.gifCounty engineering and construction departments advise Towns on bridge and road designs.
Chip Seal Roads: County crews chip seal some Town roads.
Signs & Guide Rail: County crews install signs and guide rail on some Town roads.

Bidding

diamonds.gifSchuyler County has been included on the Steuben County equipment cutting edge bid.
