Welcome to the Steuben County (NY) home
page.
Approximately 100,000 people live within the
county's borders which encompass
about 1600 square miles - just slightly smaller than the state of
Delaware.
We are a combination of rural, small town, and small city communities.
The material contained in this section has been assembled for the use
of
members of the general public who wish to know more about county
demographics
and county government. We are a diverse county with bustling activity
in
our three main population centers around Bath, Hornell, and Corning
contrasted
with an active Old Order Amish community in south central Steuben.
Rolling
hills and deep valleys play host to dairy farming, field crops, and
potato
growing. Many home grown fruits and vegetables can be purchased at road
side stands during mid and late summer. Information on tourism is
available
through the Steuben
County Conference & Visitors Bureau. Northern Steuben County
contains
miles of coastline on Keuka Lake, one of the most beautiful of the
Finger
Lakes with grape vineyards in the hills surrounding it. The Corning Museum of Glass,
one of the three largest tourist attractions in New
York
State is also located in the southeastern corner of this county. The
entire
county puts on a brilliant fall foliage display in early October.
Fishing
and hunting are very popular during trout, bass, deer, and turkey
seasons.
We have many privately owned camp grounds and Stony Brook State Park
providing
additional recreational activities. The county's Industrial
Development Agency is eager to assist businesses, small and large,
wishing to locate here. I urge anyone considering visiting Steuben
County
or looking for a business friendly atmosphere with a home town touch to
explore one of these sites.
