Jack Lisi Youth Award

A recognition/incentive award for young adults created in 1992 by the Steuben County Youth Bureau and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program as a memorial for the former Steuben County Sheriff Jack Lisi.  This award program targets young people 16 through 21 years old, who are often overlooked and offers incentives to youth who have shown interest and ambition toward academic or career/employment goals.  “Jack had compassion, concern and respect for youth who had problems which hindered their ability to achieve and he felt that often they were not given enough credit.  Jack believed that what was needed was someone to care, show support, assistance and guidance in order for youngsters to become contributing members of society.”  A maximum of eight finalists from within Steuben County are selected by a committee to receive awards and incentives, dependent upon information expressed on a referral form.  At the present time awards are given in the amount of $1,000 toward continuing education, internship/mentorship program, financial assistance to Corning Community College, financial assistance for post secondary education, certificates for books and/or educational material and certificates for work related material.  The winners are recognized at a banquet in May.
