Tai Chi for Arthritis

Tai Chi for Arthritis: Steuben County RSVP’s Signature Evidence-Based Program

Based on Sun Style Tai Chi, (pronounced Soon style Tie Chee), Tai Chi for Arthritis is designed to help older adults improve balance, flexibility, and posture. The program meets for 1-hour classes, twice a week for 8 weeks. Proven to reduce the risk of falls by 70%, the program incorporates powerful Qigong (pronounced chee-Gong) breathing exercises with gentle Tai Chi movements. You do not have to have arthritis to benefit from the classes.

Tai Chi for Arthritis workshops have been held throughout Steuben County.  All workshops are taught by RSVP Volunteers, certified by the Tai Chi for Health Institute.  As this is a volunteer-lead program, the availability of the workshop is fully depended on our RSVP Volunteers.  If you have experience in Tai Chi, martial arts, physical therapy services, other health-related services, or leading physical fitness classes, we recommend that you try out a workshop near you.  Tai Chi for Arthritis is based on the idea that “anyone can learn Tai Chi for better health,” and Steuben County RSVP is dedicated to promoting that concept.  After completing a workshop, if you feel that you would like to help promote this too, contact Christine Towner, RSVP Coordinator, at 607-664-2298 for more information.
